Gilt Bronze Figure of Four-Armed Shadakshari, Tibeto-Chinese, 17th/18th Century
Finely rendered and heavily cast, the figure positioned in seated dhyanasana on a double lotus base with the principal hands held in prayer position in front of the chest while the secondary arms radiate outwards with the right hand holding a small lotus bud. The slender figure dressed in elegant finery including a lotus-patterned dhoti; long flowing ribbons; and jewelry including large pendant earrings of floral medallion designs and a beaded necklace swung across the chest, the deity with a serene expression, downcast eyes and smiling full lips all sensitively modeled and surmounted by an elaborate five-leaf crown and elegant top knot decorated with a small finial replicating the bodhisattva’s likeness
