Lot Report

Provenance:

Formerly from an estate from Syracuse NY.

Note:

The Buddha’s hand citron, with its characteristic bulbous body, long irregular tendrils and dimpled rind, is frequently depicted in Chinese art, and regarded as an auspicious object. Symbolically, the brightly coloured citrus fruit is associated with happiness, wealth, and longevity. Although the fruit is often depicted individually, as in the case of this carving, it can also be combined with other auspicious objects such as pomegranates and peaches, to form the “three abundances”.
