Grey Schist Seated Buddha, Gandhara, 3rd Century

Seated above a group of five diminutive figures in a cross-legged position with hands folded in lap and palms upturned, Buddha dressed in a heavily draped sanghati with elegant folds, his oval face with large deep set eyes, aquiline nose, and bow-shaped mouth, all framed by a pair of pendulous earlobes and a simple ushnisha while backed by a nimbus. Affixed to stand
height 15" — 38 cm.
