Decorated on one side with a warrior and acolyte, the reverse with three figures in conversation, the latter possibly a scene from Tale of the Three Kingdoms, with Zhuge Liang addressing Liu Bei and Guanyu

This large form of lotus seed pod jar was a rarity until large numbers were discovered with the Hatcher cargo, a shipwreck from 1640. Compare with two jars with figures in Christie’s New York , March 25, 2011, lots 1681 and 1682
