Lot Report

Provenance:

Private Collection, Montreal

Note:

Yves Gaucher’s Étude asserts a presence. The work’s flat planes of colour across a diagonal horizon, carry with them a subtle structure. While the work appears deep and quiet, there is an antagonism at a play between the black and the blue. Given Étude’s hues and its ability to evoke spatial awareness and self-reflection, the contemporary viewer may see this work by Gaucher as a predecessor to the works of contemporary artist James Turrell.
