Provenance:

Joey and Toby Tanenbaum, Toronto

Literature:

Sorel Etrog Italian Portraits: Sculpture, Drawings, Etchings and Documents from the Italian Period, 1964-1985, (catalogue), Instituto di Cultura, Toronto, 1999, page 28 and page 31 for a related knotted hand, circa 1970-71 reproduced.

Note:

Sorel Etrog's (1933-2014) Hands appear in many versions on paper and in bronze from 1969 onward. In 1967 Etrog was involved in a car accident in Italy en route to his foundry. He recalls: “After my recovery from the car accident in 1967, I still needed to have a number of surgeries on my fingers and to wear plaster casts. That triggered many sculptures, paintings and drawings of hands in 1969.”
