Lot Report

Provenance:

Private Collection, Toronto.

Note:

Acclaimed artist and lecturer Joanne Tod was born in Montreal in 1953. She now resides in Toronto, where she attended the Ontario College of Art and Design. Tod is best known for her representational images, which focus on the "re-presentation" of an appropriated image and are often drawn from popular media or advertising, as well as her commissioned portraiture. Regardless of subject matter, she is lauded for bringing a critical edge to her practice. She first gained acclaim in the early 1980s when she participated in the artist-organized exhibition Monumenta. Since then she has been exhibited nationally and internationally. She is represented in numerous corporate, private and public collections, including those of the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Vancouver Art Gallery.
