Note:

This trophy, for Bayonet v. Bayonet, 1st prize, was presented in 1897 to Pte. George Stewart, 48th Highlanders, as Champion overall in the Colonials Competitions at the Islington Royal Military Tournament in England. A detailed account of the Canadian team’s performance in a series of events, and the importance of their success, accompanies the lot.
Sold also with a framed contemporary print of the battalion on parade (1899)

CONDITION DETAILS

Engraved with presentation inscription: “Royal Military Tournament / 1897 / Bayonet v. Bayonet / 1st Prize won by / Pte. Stewart / 48th Cdn. Highrs.” and “Colonials / Competitions”; one or two ‘salt spots’, but otherwise in good condition; good marks on side; print has water stains at margins
