of stepped hexagonal form surmounted by the figure of Justice, stood with sword and attendant dog, the plinth with niches flanking panels applied with arms of the city of Montreal, engraved with the Stephens family crest with motto VIRTUTIS AMORE and cipher WS below, the base mounted with figures of Industry and Commerce on either side above four panels chased with beavers on maple branches, the front engraved with a presentation inscription, a view of Montreal and the St. Lawrence river on the reverse, contained in a mahogany case mounted with gilt brass
