Bell-Smith had a great interest in the writings of Charles Dickens (1812-1870) and he was very active in the Dickens’ Fellowship, Toronto Chapter. Similar works illustrating characters from Dickens’ tales were exhibited at Art Association of Montreal Spring Exhibitions in 1917 and 1918.
