Lot 115
THOMAS SHERLOCK HODGSON
Literature:
David G. Taylor, Tom Hodgson, catalogue, Lynwood Arts Centre, Simcoe, Ontario, 1988, pages 13-15 for related “semi-abstract” watercolours from the same period as this lot.
Note:
Taylor notes that Hodgson began to paint abstract watercolours about 1951. During 1951 to 1952, Hodgson based his work on photographs taken of natural objects and scenery from his surroundings on Toronto’s Centre Island distorting the original object. Hodgson continued to paint “semi-abstract” images based on his own photographs until 1955.
