Note:

Painted in 1958.

Although MacDonald notes that Humphrey’s musical background was slight, from 1950­­–1957, he played in the string section of the Saint John local symphony orchestra and often played classical music with a violinist friend at parties. Professor W.C. Bowden was a well-known music teacher and expert violin maker in Saint John, N.B. He died on March 21, 1959 at the age of 86.

The proceeds from the sale of this lot are to benefit the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Toronto.
